Tragically,
I can't remember whether the local paper we used to get was actually
called the Harringay Advertiser or not, but it was certainly something
along those lines. The personal ads were always the funniest (as
they are in any paper. Apparently even the Financial Times has
some good ones...). I do seem to remember one of them which read:
"Older voluptuous woman of African decent seeks younger,
slim, white male, for fun." Although this would make most
people shudder in itself, just imagine if you completely turned
that advert on it's head: "Older portly white man, seeks
younger, slim, black girl for fun." And then we see the real
goosebumps rise.
I was
talking to a friend about the whole "Landlords taking a week
to show up" thing, and we came to the conclusion that it
was because legally, they have to give a weeks notice (in hindsight
it might actually only be 24 hours) before they show up at your
house. Maybe they don't realise that that doesn't apply if they've
actually been invited....
