12.05.08: Lazy!

Sorry, I know nothing new is up. Just rolled out of exams, which is a lousy excuse, because they've been finished for a few days now. Just getting back into the swing of drawing my stuff again. Normal service will be resumed shortly! (the cruel among you will say this IS normal service..)

28.04.08: Updated

Nothing much to report at the moment, so instead of writing a bunch of waffle for waffle's sake, I'll just direct you to the new Student Squad page and not try and fill this space with a half baked promise about another comic that I intend to be work on At Some Point In The Future.

24.04.08: Stats! Stat!

I've put some traffic tracking code onto my site, and found that some people must actually be reading this. I suppose I really shouldn't be that surprised, as the amount of rubbish on the internet that gets read a lot would only indicate that visitors would swing this way eventually, but it's still rather a novel experience for me anyway.

I'll probably find out it's one of my friends who's set their homepage to my website that's boosting my stats, but never mind. It keeps me happy all the same.

If you are a reader, thanks. I'll work on some sort of comment leaving thing possibly (although that might require a few too many lessons in php for my liking) so for the mean time, feel free to email me at david.of.hing@gmail.com. I'm not linking that, because last time I did something that stupid I ended up in enough spam to feed the territorial army twice.

21.04.08: Frightening season

It's all getting rather close to exams. In 18 days time, or there abouts, it'll be over for another year, but until that time, there may be short bouts of tantram with a general stress prevailing from the East. Fingers crossed, updates and yourselves will be unaffected by such trifles,

17.04.08: Webcomic List

You may have noticed a little button appear to the left which says DBC is the 1,000,000th entry into the Webcomic list. Feel free to head over there and leave comments on the profile page, although it's a little bit of a mess at the moment, so leave it a couple of days first...

If you do have any comments whatsoever that you'd like to drop to me, give me a shout on david.of.hing@gmail.com. Feedback is great, even if it is to shout about my messy line work.

14.04.08: Updated Layouts

I've been playing around with the layouts of the comic pages a bit lately as a few people have been complaining that the comics are appearing half way down the page instead of near the top. I hope that the recent update has cleared up that problem, but time will tell.

In non-comic related news, Cathelius (link is on the left under "Links") have got an updated version of their current project, "Mistral", and is well worth a look.

10.04.08: Updated Mondays and Thursdays

"Stuff it" he says, might as well start the update schedule today, as it is after all a Thursday, and I'm ready for this. Sort of. I'm hoping this won't be the epic failure of my recent daily update schedule which lasted a whole 2 days before ceasing.

Weirdly enough, I had a dream that I updated this site with loads of new stuff, but when I woke up, I couldn't remember what it was. It was really cool though...

08.04.08: Update Schedule

Following todays update and starting from next week, it is my intention to update this site twice a week, hopefully on Mondays and Thursdays. I will make it clear if that changes at all, but I feel that keeping to a straight forward update schedule as opposed to the "whenever" approach will be good for me, the comic, and the three of you that are currently keeping up with this!

Just as a small bonus, I've stuck a couple of wallpapers up on the "Downloads" section in case anyone is bored with the way their computer is looking at the moment.

05.04.08: Mini Update

Not a real update today. I have put up a "Characters" section for the Student Squad, for anyone who may be a little in the dark over the main characters. If new characters pop up or old ones develop a little more, I'm likely to update this, for example, Dr. Doomday could probably use a short entry really.

I say it's a mini update, but oddly enough, doing the characters page took much longer than I intedned. Despite this, the new page is in progress and may even be up before the end of the weekend.

If anyone didn't see the BBCs flying penguins, go and have a look at them now as in my opinion, it has been done fantastically. Do a search in Youtube for BBC, Flying Penguins, and iPlayer and you should find it.

01.04.08: More fool you

Updates have been slower than expected this time due to a lack of internet. As far as excuses goes, I feel that one should at least be valid.

To make up for this however, there is the extra bonus of the old student squad strips now available for viewing under the "Student Squad" section under the heading "Day to Day". Although these aren't exactly "new" strips, many of them being well over a year old, I thought it was about time to put them back up again, especially as I occassionally mention something in "No More Heroes" that happened in one of the earlier strips.

It is now time for me to revel in the restoration of the internet. More content coming soon.

21.03.08: Happy Easter

Hope you all enjoy the couple of days off work if you exist in the real world, or the weeks and weeks out of university if you exist in the delusional world (I'm sorry, I am just achingly jealous. Seriously, make the most of it!)

More student squad today. Enjoy.

18.03.08: Further Changes

As you can see, a few further changes have been made to the site. I've added a few links below the comics area (which is still looking a little empty, but one thing at a time). These links will take you to sites of friends and associated persons or organisations.

The UK Web and Mini Comix thing is on this Saturday, and makes for a good day out. We're not exhibiting this year, but it's still worth going of course.

Cathelius is the website of a friend of mine who is currently being very brave and setting out to write his own computer games using a tremendous talent that he has and his site is worth checking from time to time.

I actually made a mini break through with Flash the other day, so I might post some of my "flashy" experiments at some point soon. I haven't got anything to sophisticated yet, but it's a start!

08.03.08: Coming Soon

I always hate the "Coming Soon" post on any website, as you can't help but feel it's all some sort of false promise. Before I am lynched, allow me to first say, new Student Squad today, so, calm, I have not re-abandoned this just yet...

I intend to place some sort of archive on the site (as already discussed). I also intend to link some other sites that I feel one should check every now and then, or that people have asked me to link.

The fabled Matt3 will also be returning to the website at some point with an updated colour version and rewritten features (that's right, I'm doing a much feared Lucas style Special edition) because quite frankly it needed tidying up.

I use the phrase "at some point" and refuse to define the meaning of "soon" because I am well aware that all of this could happen tomorrow, or next year, so no promises, I just wanted to mention it.

04.03.08: Short term/Long term plans

So what can you expect from DBC at the moment? Well, first of all, let me say that I wouldn't start buying shares and making investments in the comic just yet. Who knows, the last few days may have been an odd fluke. Basically, the current plan is to eventually put an archive up of all the old Student Squad strips in a "Student Squad: Day to Day" format, with a view to occasionally putting a short strip up from time to time, for those of you that preferred the ad-hoc random nature of the old strips as opposed to the newer story driven style.

After communicating with Bobik, it seems likely that any new material from him may be a little bit further along the line. In fact, I may need to further persuade him to take up his pen once more and fight for the cause again. I currently have plans to release a rabid badger into his flat that might persuade him to start drawing again (a little bit like leaving a horse's head in your bed in the Mafia style of intimidation, but more interactive). Despite this, he's expressed a wish to have an archive of his work up here which will be arranged at some point.

More Student Squad today. When it rains it pours I suppose.

03.03.08: Ding is careful not to mention Daily Updates

Stuck up the next page today, which is the first one that I've tried to use a tablet for in the inking stage of production. From a distance, if the viewer has a bit of a squint, it actually looks quite good, but otherwise, it's clear that I need a little more practise with the tablet. It is in no way going to replace my original "lazy-half-arsed" method which is just that little bit quicker, but I might do a bit more experimentation with it in the future.

02.03.08: An Apology

The observant among you, or more accurately, anybody that has been continuing to look for DingBobik comics in the face of adversity that is the "The page cannot be displayed" internet message, may have notice that we've been down for quite a while. In fact, I think the last official update was in the middle of 2007, where I said something like "don't worry, it won't be another 6 months before I post something else."

Sorry about that. Business will be restored at some point.

You may also have noticed that the site is looking a little bit different. I'm not too sure that I like it at the moment, but it's a start, and we'll go from there.

If you have a comment, please email me at david.of.hing@gmail.com. I never check my email, but you never know, you may get lucky.
